A couple months ago we did a science experiment in class that showed how germs spread. I "sneezed" into a handful of "germs" (we used glitter as a model for the germs) and the students saw how germs can spread. We also took red, blue, and yellow paint in the palm of our hands, shook hands, and saw how germs can be transferred from person to person or surface to person. It was very memorable and very relevant considering where we are now. Self-Isolation is difficult for everyone, but the risk to everyones health, especially our elderly, make it necessary to not expose each other to germs. Self-isolation can be very difficult because we do not have the opportunity to interact with our community, neighbors, friends, and family like we are used to, This can make people feel alone and very sad. News-2-You had a breaking news article about making postcards for seniors. This is a great activity. Students create a piece of artwork, you can use a coloring page (they have provided a couple if you like) but they can also create their own masterpiece. Write or copy a personalized note, practice writing their address so it can be mailed, walk it to the mailbox next time you go out to get exercise. If you don't know a senior, you could send it to a retirement or assisted living home. It's a great way to connect to the community and spread some cheer.
